Pico is an old and dear friend who has been doing his thing long before the current vogue for soulful surf muso's took hold. He has a new album and tour happening and always puts on a beautiful and heartfelt performance. He's joining forces with another old mate Andrew Kidman for some of the shows, which ought to be a treat. See next item for Ank's complete tour dates. Go and check them out. A little sample and bit of a PR spiel from Pico's people:

While the name may be new to many, surfer, songwriter and musician Pico is no recent arrival on the Australian music scene.

In fact, he already has a significant following within the surf music fraternity in this country and overseas, in particular Japan.

New single - Me & You

While artists of the calibre of Jack Johnson and Donovan Frankenreitar are enjoying global success, few people realise their style of music actually started on our own shores. And with none other than Pico. A fact acknowledged by both of these artists.

Pico’s new CD – “Morning Sun” – has just been released and sees the artist reach a career high-point.

On this 12 track album, Pico explores the world around him and within him. A world of heart-break, of love re-found, of happiness and the joy of each new day as well as touching on the plight of whales and of our planet.

His intimate, yet powerful lyrics and music give each of his songs a unique interpretation of these universal themes.

To support Pico, independent producer, “D.C.” (Paul Di Giacomo) enlisted some highly regarded musicians.

The identifiable guitar sound of Martin Rotsey (Midnight Oil) and the driving percussion of Lee Moloney (Diesel/Jimmy Barnes band) can be heard throughout. Further contributions came from Rob Hirst (Midnight Oil) and Tim Gaze (Tamam Shud).

“I couldn’t be happier with the result. To have the calibre of these musicians work with me and contribute so much was remarkable. They’ve added depth and feeling to my songs in such a positive way,” said Pico.

Pico’s musical journey began more than a decade ago.

Thanks to noted surfer, Derek Hynd, Pico was asked to compose the soundtrack for a Ripcurl video series titled “The Search”. Since then, he has written music for more than 25 surf features and within surfing ranks, Pico is referred to as the “the sound of surf movie”.

In addition to the soundtracks, Pico has previously released four CDs to wide acclaim and became somewhat of a cult music figure within the surf community around the world – touring and performing in South Africa, New Zealand, Japan, United States and United Kingdom.

“Morning Sun” sees Pico take yet another significant step on his musical journey.

“Morning Sun” is released on the Bombora label – creators of “Delightful Rain: a celebration of Australian surf music” - and sees the label continue to forge a dominant path within the surf music arena.
