The legendary point break is now legally protected, both land and sea, from inapprorpiate development. Australia's first surfing reserve was Bells Beach, declared in 1974. It has taken a long time to get the second one through, but there is a concerted campaign now under way to have more of our great surf spots protected as surfing reserves. Got to be a good thing.
