Surf writing lunch at Sunshine Coast literary festival

Renowned surf writer Phil Jarratt and myself will be banging on at a "literary lunch" at the Sunshine Beach Surf Club as part of the "Reality Bites" Festival on the Sunshine Coast, on Sunday, June 14. The deal is - a two course lunch overlooking the ocean, with drinks at reasonable prices, for $40 while two old surf journos tell stories and attempt to make you laugh. When I asked Phil what one was supposed to do at a literary lunch, his reply was as professional as you would expect from one of the giants of surf literature: "Few jokes, couple of dance routines, bit of swearing...give 'em their 40 bucks worth! 40 bucks is a bit steep for us, don't you think? I wouldn't pay that much for you, me and Westerly naked!" Regardless, we will do our best. The Reality Bites Festival is a celebration of literature organised by the Sunshine Coast regional council. The event program tells me: "Festival sessions are intended to be informal, relaxed and enjoyable, with dedicated time for your questions from the floor. Seating is provided on a 'first in best dressed' basis, so it is advisable to arrive in plenty of time to grab a seat up front. There will be time in between sessions to purchase books for signing by the authors. Venues are within walking distance of food and beverage outlets." Well, thank goodness for that. Sunshine Beach Surf Club is at the corner of Belmore Terrace and Duke Street (how appropriate), Sunshine Beach. You can find out more at: the Festival blog
