Surfing gets a decent look in at the Sydney Writer's Festival this year. I'll be presenting two workshops on surf writing on the morning and afternoon of Friday May 22, for anyone interested in writing down their own surf adventures for fun, publication and/or profit. I have presented similar workshops at the Byron Bay Writers' Festival and the Hunter Writers Centre in Newcastle and had a great time doing them. A few comments from previous participants:

"Interesting, inspiring, well-thought out morning, brought insight to topic and genre."

"Fantastic. Articulate and interesting, great way with the group."

"Pleasure to listen to. All I could have asked for."

"Excellent, in touch, able to impart ideas and knowledge in an accessible way."

“Terrific - so many good ideas, gave me confidence, answered questions I had.”

“Lots of sharing of experiences by Tim - great to hear real stories from someone who has actually done it. ... Loved it."

Myself, Nick Carroll and Sean Doherty will also be appearing on a surf writing panel on Saturday, May 23, from 4.30 to 5.30 pm, chaired by John Meredith. Nick needs little introduction, as this country's most distinguished surfing writer. Apart from his many surf magazine credentials - Tracks, US Surfing, Deep - he also wrote and researched the recent ABC series, Bombora, a history of Australian surfing. Sean is also an ex-editor of Tracks, wrote the Michael Peterson bio, MP, and his book on the Abberton Brothers, Bra Boys, comes out in August. Should be a lot of fun - looking forward to it.
