I think I gave up on corporate surf movies a while ago, bowed under the avalanche of free DVDs that get hurled at us with surf magazines these days. So I missed this when it came out. But Jon Frank's section of the RipCurl movie, Somewhere, from a couple of years ago is pretty amazing and his video diary on the making of it flat out hilarious. "Only one person will get it," Frank rages at one point, "And that person will be a wanker. Like me." Frank is a genius and if I am that wanker, well then, yes, I wank. This isn't his segment, you'll have to get a hold of the DVD, but it's a trailer for the entire programme, which is an innovative and commendable creative experiment where 11 different editors produce their own chapters with complete creative control.
