Hate to dis' the King, but this is just a little too much to swallow. Kelly Slater, who has flown around the world his entire adult life, employs helicopters, jet skis and luxury charter boats to ferry him to the surf, and goes through 100 or so surfboards a year, claims to be green because he separates his garbage into recyclables and non-recyclables. This is the sort of thing that gives the new eco-consciousness a bad name. I read somewhere that he buys carbon offsets, which is to be commended, but it is just another way for wealthy people not to change their habits. The biggest challenge in overcoming environmental threats is behaviourial change and being able to pay a bit extra to continue your unsustainable lifestyle surely isn't the answer.
