The Simon Anderson biography to launch at Bells

After much sweat and toil, the truly epic Simon Anderson biography THRUST is set to launch at Bells, to mark the 30th anniversary of his break through win on his revolutionary Thruster. This is my first book project for Surfing World and it is a high end, photo heavy, hard back coffee table style book, with more than 200 pages of amazing photos by some of the best photographers in the business. The great joy of this otherwise daunting assignment was rifling through the archives of the legendary lensmen Hugh McLeod and Peter Crawford (whose archive is cared for by his son Justin, also a talented photographer). Simon's milestone boards were also artfully shot by the one and only Andrew Kidman. Words are by Simon, myself, Phil Jarratt, Derek Hynd, Hugh McLeod and Andrew Kidman, and other contributing photographers include Jeff Divine, Dan Merkel, Albe Falzon, Frank Pithers, Peter Simons, Peter Wilson and Mick McCormack. Surfing World's Doug Lees project managed the whole unwieldly mission with characteristic poise and calm, keeping his head while all around him were losing theirs. Simon worked diligently on bringing his remarkable story to life, writing large passages himself and captioning all the photos with his typically pithy observations. For a man who started out riding longboards at Collaroy in the '60s, who road the wave of the shortboard revolution at Narrabeen, then ushered in the '80s performance era with his game-changing Thruster, it is truly remarkable that he continues to shape contest winning boards for the best surfers in the world today. The book should be in stores in early May or available for order through the Surfing World website.
