Mick Fanning takes book promotion to new heights

Please excuse the lack of posts lately. Just returned from Hawaii where our boy Mick took the world title in thrilling circumstances. Really, I never expected him to go to this much trouble to promote our book, but remain profoundly grateful. I am not sure whether to take the blame or the credit. It was clearly the relief of this pesky journalist leaving him alone that inspired his title winning role. We finished work on our book, Surf For Your Life, in J-Bay in July, where Mick recorded his worst result for the season, a 17th, and languished at number 7 in the world, while Parko was 1400 points clear of his nearest rival, with three wins from five. Since I left the boy alone, Mick has come second at the US Open, first at Trestles, first in France, and first in Portugal, to set up the thrilling title showdown with old mate Parko in Hawaii. It was a touching scene when the vanquished Parko trudged down the beach after his elimination and hoisted his mate Mick up on his shoulder, along with the third Cooly Kid, Deano. The three have been driving each other's deveopment as surfers and competitors since they were all 13 or 14, so it was a fitting scene. The win unleashed a ferocious round of celebrations in Hawaii, but in the midst of all the partying and media duties, Mick found time to take his mate Barney for a surf at Sunset. Barney is a quadraplegic who nevertheless lives life to the full - traveling, surfing, partying, and is great mates with a lot of the pros. Nice to see in the eye of the storm that Mick remember's what's important. Good on ya' mate and many thanks for a job well done. Cheers. Happy holidays all and hug your loved ones.
