Mick outsells Ricky Ponting on the bestseller list

The lastest sports best seller list has Surf For Your Life at number five in the country, just behind Andre Agassi, and ahead of Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting's Ashes Tour Diary. Not a bad result, especially considering Mick's major sales spike is likely to be during the Pipe Masters when the world title is being decided, conveniently enough right before Christmas. Mick was an out and out champ undertaking a three day media blitz to promote the book on the Gold Coast, Sydney and Melbourne, right before he flew to Hawaii for the season finale. His media duties contributed to his decision to delay his departure for Hawaii and miss the Reef Hawaiian Pro at Haleiwa so it was a big commitment by him, especially with the world title and the Triple Crown up for grabs in Hawaii. He timed his run well though, and spent time at home training and relaxing while the waves on the North Shore were tiny and blown out, and flew in just as the first real swell of the Hawaiian contest season arrived. Images filtering back from the Islands have captured Mick charging at Sunset, Off The Wall, and even over at Honolua Bay on Maui at the height of the recent Waimea swell this week. It should be a great showdown for the crown at Pipe and I'm going to fly over to cover the event, as Mick and his mate Joel Parkinson, two of the original Coolly Kids, battle it out for the world title. Can't wait.
