SALTWATER BUDDHA
A fine line in surfing spiritualism

I was pretty excited when I found out about this book and its author, even more so when I finally got to read it. Wise words well written, and that is a rarity in modern surf culture. Close readers might have noticed a certain leaning towards eastern mysticism in some of my own more esoteric musings, but Jaimal Yogis is the real deal, a card-carrying Buddhist who has studied and refined his understanding of its principles over many years, studied to be a monk but opted for the life of a writer, while maintaining his daily meditation practice and Buddhist way of life. And yes, Yogis is his real name, not one he has conveniently aquired to make a more marketable package. His humble and unassuming language, his self-depracating references to his "silly book," and this "fumbling language," are completely charming and, without giving away too much, his big insights and conclusions about life are honest and true. This is one of those rarest of books - one that makes you feel like a slightly better person just for having read it, like it actually did you good.
Jaimal Yogis is in Australia and will be doing readings and book signings at the following places:
September 25, 6 PM, Gertrude and Alice Bookstore Cafe. 45 Hall St., Bondi Beach, Sydney, AU.
October 1, 6:30 PM, New Lululemon Athletica140 Bourke Street Melbourne (between Russell and Exhibition right next to the Virgin Active), Melbourne, AU
October 3, 11 AM Dymocks, Camberwell Shop 113-114 The Well at Camberwell, 793 Burke Road, Camberwell (in Melbourne) VIC 3124
October 7-11 I’ll be appearing on numerous panels during the Ubud Writer and Reader’s Festival http://www.ubudwritersfestival.com/
