Does anyone else think Dane Reynolds surfs like Shane Beschen?

Looking back at this footage of Dane at J-Bay it's hard to avoid the sense that some of the Reynolds hysteria is a little over hyped. He looks skittery and awkward a lot of the time, but also twitchy like he could do anything at any time, which is kind of the point I guess. And there are some truly spectacular moments, when they come. I think he is flippant about the whole deal because he quite rightly figures all the fuss is a bit overblown sometimes. But I was most powerfully struck by how much he resembles Beschen, particularly through some of those tight little cutty/gouge things he does. Maybe it's the back arm, hooked up above his head that is so Besh. I also love Belly's presentation - the good vibing background hum to Dane's successful campaign. And buzzing cool rock chick girlfriend Courtney, fetching beers and board carrying with equal enthusiasm. I witnessed her get board carrying tips from a photographer friend, and experimenting with different grips - under the arm, hanging at arm's length, on the head. This is not a beach girl. And it's all-too-easy to see Dane as a happy Kurt Cobain, to her cute Courtney. It's not hard to imagine Dane in a "corporate surf companies still suck" t-shirt on a magazine cover, fingering the system with a smile, like his Quikky "is this an infomercial" web ad. But you sense it's gonna work out a whole lot happier than Kurt and Courtney. Maybe if Kurt had surfed he'd have been okay.
